Creative direction celebrates 30 years

30 years of design and marketing success celebrated in one night. And what a night it was!

Thursday 6th October 2022 commemorated Creative Direction’s 30th birthday. We welcomed clients, business colleagues, family, and friends to celebrate the night with us.

The birthday bash took place at Leicester’s renowned Case and Champagne Bar. The venue was transformed in to a gallery of our agency’s rich and varied visual history. 12 easels scattered the venue with canvases displaying some of our finest work. The concept, an exhibition that showcased projects ranging from brand identities and logos to bespoke website design, brochures and packaging solutions.

Endless glasses of champagne and countless canapés were indulged by our 80 guests with a backdrop of 90s sounds spun by DJ Buckby. The tasty options were endless, the music eclectic, something for everyone – much like the service we offer.

The people, the conversations, the positivity and love that filled the venue was a great reminder as to why we do, what we do at Creative Direction.

The history of Creative Direction

A lot can happen in 30 years. First established in 1990, Creative Direction has since operated from three different locations and worked with well over 600 different clients.

Picture this – after 8 years within some of London’s top agencies, a young and determined David Major sets out on his own journey and launches Creative Direction at Tower Bridge.

The business took off and by the end of our first year the team had completed a rebrand for household assurance brand, Abbey Life – the first tiny steps towards a long and prosperous road.

Throughout the time in London, we retained a plethora of prestigious clients from the widest range of industries; producing print for British Airways and packaging for L’Oréal. We also worked with the likes of the Grosvenor House on Park Lane, HSBC and Hambros Bank.

Next stop, Cornwall

Life had progressed, and David made the brave decision to move Creative Direction to Cornwall in a bid to give his son the best upbringing. And what a decision this was. A new location meant new clients with different ambitions.

This new influx of clients included the likes of Rodda’s, Furniss Biscuits and Kelly’s Ice Cream. Creative Direction was flourishing in the new environment and business was booming. We even launched Aloha into Europe, produced Wavelength Magazine and launched our own adrenaline publication RUSH in to 20 countries.

But it doesn’t end there: David opens Leicester studio

In 2012 David decided to go back to his roots and open a second office in Leicester. Creative Direction found a new home in the heart of the Midlands.

Time had passed, technology and trends had changed, but Creative Direction stayed as strong as ever, attracting clients nationally by the week. The last 10 years have been devoted to our client’s challenging ambitions and ultimate success. The work our team produce has revolutionised the way customers market their organisations. You only need to ask BHW, Anthony James Insurance or the Barrie Stephen salon group.

Here we are in October of 2022, still in our quirky Leicester office and now going global with new clients in Miami, New York and Dubai.

Meet the team

David Major, after all these years, is still our Artistic Director and continues to lead the agency challenging the norms and striving for perfection.

Dominic Shaw our Creative Lead has been with us for 7 years. Educated at Leicester’s very own De Montfort University, his work is unexpected and devoid of design clichés.

We also have our very own in-house coder, Mark Morris, who has been our Web and Digital Lead for the last 7 years.

Julie Procter is our Head of Growth and works alongside new and old customers to generate new revenue streams.

The newest addition to the Creative Direction family is our Social Strategist, Olivia Poole, who brings that all important youthful perspective to the team.

That completes Creative Direction

We are a close-knit team who work together to exceed our client expectations and create designs they can be proud of. No matter how big or small, local, or international your business may be, we make you the centre of our agency and ultimately your organisation more successful. Creative Direction would be nothing without our shared can-do attitude and enthusiasm to deliver exceptional work across the board.

Here’s to 30 more years of growth, innovation, and excellence!
